What is a GEDCOM file?

Updated over a week ago

A GEDCOM file is the standard format for storing and sharing family tree data. It's what lets you move your tree between different genealogy sites and apps. Most genealogy sites β€” including Ancestry, MyHeritage, and FamilySearch β€” let you export your tree as a GEDCOM for free. Once you've downloaded yours, you can import it into YourRoots.
