What is XGMix?

Learn about the XGmix algorithm that powers the Global Ancestry Report

Updated over a week ago

XGMix is a method for Local Ancestry Inference β€” it figures out which ancestral population each segment of your chromosomes came from. It's built on XGBoost (a type of machine learning) and comes with pre-trained models for each chromosome. The system works in two steps: first, a set of parallel models makes an initial ancestry estimate for each section of your genome. Then a second model smooths those estimates to produce the final result.
