What are the Ancient DNA Matches?

The ranked list of real excavated individuals whose DNA is closest to yours.

Ancient DNA Matches are a ranked list of the real excavated individuals in the dataset whose DNA is most similar to yours. Each match shows you the archaeological site and its location, the time period and radiocarbon date, the cultural group or archaeological context, and a genetic similarity (or distance) score.

The regional breakdown gives you a compositional picture of where your ancestry fits. The ancient matches give you something more direct: a "who am I closest to" view that connects you to specific named individuals, from specific burial sites, in specific centuries of Greek, Balkan, and Mediterranean prehistory.
