How are ancient matches scored and ranked?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

We use a composite genetic-distance score that combines multiple measures: PCA/UMAP proximity (how close you sit to them in high-dimensional genetic space) and IBS/allele-sharing metrics (how much DNA you actually share). Lower distance scores mean stronger genetic similarity.

Samples with low-quality DNA or sparse coverage are down-weighted to favor more reliable matches. The ranking reflects the overall strength of the genetic relationship.
