My file won't upload, or the upload seems stuck. What should I try?

A few things to check:

  • AncestryDNA files: Upload the original .zip file directly. Don't repack it into a different format.

  • FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) files: If your file is a .csv.gz, try unzipping it to a plain .csv file first, then upload that.

  • CircleDNA files: These files are often very large and poorly formatted, which can cause uploads to stall. Contact us and we can upload it manually.

  • Very small files (under 1 MB): Your file likely doesn't contain enough genetic markers. We need at least 600,000 markers. Check that you downloaded the full raw data file from your provider.
