What's the deal with "imputed" files? Should I avoid them?

Updated over a week ago

Yes, if possible. Some DNA providers (especially whole genome sequencing services) use imputation β€” a process that fills in genetic markers you weren't actually tested for, based on statistical guesses. These imputed markers can cause problems with our reports, and they're especially bad for DNA matching, where they can create false parent/child matches.

For the most accurate results, always upload your raw, unprocessed file from the original testing company. If you're not sure whether your file is imputed, contact us and we can check.

If you have a Genomelink account, go to genomelink.io/profile/contact and contact us from the form β€” we can help faster by checking your account log.

If you're a new user without an account yet, email us at info@genomelink.io.
