Now we can take a peek into our DNA to see if it helped or detracted from our ability to do algebra! Here's a research study conducted in elementary schools to investigate the genetic underpinnings of math ability.

A Genome-Wide Association Study Identifies Genetic Variants Associated with Mathematics Ability.

The researchers gathered and analyzed more than 1000 students’ math test scores to identify specific genetic markers. Interestingly, one of the genetic markers the scientists identified is located in a gene involved in neurogenesis (the development of nerve cells).
